MINDFULNESS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

For children and teens

Why mindfulness?

Just like grown-ups, children and young people have a lot to deal with in their daily lives. They are learning to navigate themselves in a busy world, within their family, community, friendships, school and classroom, clubs and activities...

Having to have focus, concentration and behaving in a way that is valued as 'good' is part of this navigation. Easy or not so straightforward? And what does it mean to a child  ' to pay attention?' And how does a young person learn to be more 'self-aware', learn values like kindness, gratitude, happiness?

Research in recent years about teaching  mindfulness to young people, has the potential for :

  • Improvement in concentration, focus and working memory

  • Reducing levels of depression, stress, anxiety, reactivity, and difficult behaviour

  • Improvement in a sense of well-being, greater calmness, relaxation and sleep

  • Increase in self-awareness, self-esteem and empathy
